AMSA's UCA Team
AMSA's UCA Team was created in 2020 as a way to serve our local metro-Atlanta community by providing outreach and fundraising for the Urban Clinic of Atlanta (UCA). This free, non-profit medical clinic located in Atlanta aids the uninsured population by providing routine primary care, management of chronic illness/or diseases, and assistance with accessing prescription medications. Since Fall 2020, our team has made it our goal to advocate for the UCA clinic by organizing fundraisers and spreading awareness. |
What have we done?
In Fall 2020 and Spring 2021, we raised approximately $1,082 for the Urban Clinic of Atlanta surpassing our goal!

The team will host approximately 6-8 fundraisers during the year and set a philanthropic goal they would like to reach together!

The inspiration behind this team...
As a new initiative of GT AMSA, the idea to support the Urban Clinic of Atlanta spawned from a Passion Project of an AMSA member, Ritika Chanda.
In 2019, GT AMSA’s President and former UCA volunteer, Sai Nakirikanti, encouraged AMSA Executive Board members to take on what he called “Passion Projects”. These projects allow for AMSA Executive Board members to embark upon their passions and share them with the GT AMSA and Georgia Tech community! When Ritika first joined the organization, AMSA mainly focused on professional development, but quickly, she realized that we could do more for our Atlanta community. Passionate about Public Health, when she began serving in an executive position on GT AMSA, she decided to harvest the potential within the organization and encourage AMSA members to serve as a voice on Georgia Tech’s campus for the underserved population of the Atlanta community. Inspired by the work done by free clinics, such as UCA, she launched my Passion Project! The purpose of her project was to help support local, healthcare foundations serving the underserved population of Atlanta by donating funds raised by AMSA members. Unfamiliar with the Atlanta area, Sai pointed her in the direction of UCA. With the support and dedication of her fellow Membership Engagement chair, Ishani Desai, the two of them were able to host several fundraisers before the COVID-19 pandemic began. They still reached their goal of raising $500 for the clinic and were able to donate it just in time to help the clinic prepare for the pandemic.
Through their work with UCA, Ritika and Ishani became more interested in the clinic’s mission and decided to launch this new UCA Team to stay true to project’s purpose and encourage AMSA’s continued support towards the clinic in the coming years.
Urban Health and Wellness also recognized GT AMSA as one of their community partners!
